About Update.Design
A multilingual and multidisciplinary resource to document, track and define design around the world. A central platform to view design not from a Western colonial privilege, but from the collective society we reside in.

Aligned resources for designers around the world to access, learn from and add to within their local cultures and industries. It is a tool to better formulate education and to champion lesser documented design practices. This project will hopefully never finish, but become embedded into design culture as a necessity to update. A source of truth reflective of yesterday and tomorrow.

Update.Design Education

︎︎︎ U.DE Report 2022 (coming soon)

Update.Design Education is an ongoing project to create open source education. U.DE proposes transforming the structure of education towards a decentralized model that prioritizes the autonomy and opportunities for individual students. Existing outside the traditional tertiary structure, with no rubrics or checkboxes, but a supportive network of mentors and peers to learn from. We believe it is possible to both lower the barriers and raise the standards of design education.

Class in Session: University of the future.

︎︎︎ Course Curriculum

Hosted on the steps of the state library of Victoria
Presented at Melbourne Design Week 2023
Experience the University of the Future, a decentralized and self-guided approach to learning and critical discourse. The class for the week will explore introspective ideals and encourage students to question topics beyond their usual comfort zone. It’s important to arrive on time, as class will begin promptly.

Design education is an ongoing exploration and a serious endeavor to create better systems for creatives, no matter where they are or what they know. The course examines collective points of view around the defining values of tertiary education in Australia and around the world. Students are challenged to express new models of learning that can shape the next decade of education. The course centers on the question of how a university might function without being restricted by time and space. This topic will continue to be explored throughout the course.

As part of Melbourne Design Week 2023, Update.Design Education will close it’s open prototype of a new education model on Friday, May 26, with a group session discussing , downloading and sharing learnings from a week of school. So come along with your insights, share a pint and mould the future of education.
